There have been some questions about arrangements for crews who entered DW in 2018 and intend to do so again in 2019.
Crews who entered but decided not to race last year are offered a deferred entry in the 2019 event. They should enter the race as normal. There is only one entry per deferred crew and at least one of the paddlers from 2018 must be named on the entry form. When they enter, crews should choose the ‘Pay by cheque or bank transfer’ option on the entries website, but not make a payment. Instead, they should inform the Entries Secretary (mailto:email@example.com) that they are a deferred entry and their application will then be processed in the normal way.
There are no discounts on 2019 entry fees for crews who raced last year. Paddlers were given the clear option of accepting a deferred entry to this year’s event, or racing as far down the course as conditions permitted. At briefings on Good Friday and on Easter Saturday, the Chief Umpire and the Directors warned that although crews would be allowed to start from Devizes, no one would be cleared to race on the Thames in the dark and, with river conditions worsening by the hour, the course might still have to be shortened. The Conditions of Entry make clear that this is always a possibility, however undesirable.
The entries website is not yet open as it is undergoing essential maintenance. Further information will be published when it becomes available.
